Of course, I’m still new to all of this.

As a first-time businessperson/entrepreneur, there’s an element of experimentation and figuring it out as you go along. I’m pretty sure this is how most people go through life, so I don’t feel too bad about that. There certainly is something to say about throwing yourself in at the deep end, learning from your mistakes and successes whilst you’re there. Then you might just experience some unexpected revelations. This is just what has happened to me. So far, we’ve been successfully selling product to bars, pubs and online. Don’t get me wrong, these provided some steady income to keep the business afloat, but they were nothing compared to some recent food & drink markets attended by Selfish Spirits. We’ve only been to two of these in recent months, but on both occasions, we sold out of product!

This was an absolute revelation for me – I had no clue this was where the money was, but I can guarantee you, I’ll be dedicating a significant portion of my attention on these from now on. These markets are an excellent opportunity for the brand. The chance to meet face-to-face with customers from all over the country, gathering feedback and making relationships is too good of an opportunity to pass up. Not to mention how fun it can be! That’s why, this weekend (of the 17th Sep) I’ve double-booked ourselves… We’re attending the Holmfirth Food & Drink Festival over the whole weekend, a busy national festival to get our name a bit further afield. But not only that, we’ve also managed to snag a place on the Leeds Rum Fest this Saturday, hosted by Rolling Social at the Leeds Corn Exchange! This is an excellent chance for us to rub shoulders with some of the better known brands out there, teach a few people about Selfish Spirits, do some invaluable networking, and perhaps try a few samples along the way!
