The Selfish Spirits Company understands how hard it can be to help. We all are aware of the current state the world is in, and sometimes we feel selfish that we are not doing more to help our planet. We may focus upon ourselves sometimes at the expense of others. 

But what if it was easier? What if we could indulge ourselves whilst helping others at the same time?

We at The Selfish Spirits Company plan to do just that. Treat yourself to our delicious Spiced Rum and there is no need to feel selfish. When you purchase any of our products, a portion of the proceeds goes to worthy charitable causes. In a small but impactful way, you will be helping to make the world a little better. That’s a good reason to feel good about yourself, right?

My name is Fred Harman and I founded The Selfish Spirits Company after some self-reflection about myself and the state of humanity—how can we stop ourselves from wondering how the world functions? We humans are naturally selfish: we are driven to take care of our immediate needs before we can help others. But, very often, we become too wrapped up in our own lives that we often forget to help others. It can sometimes be difficult or overwhelming, but we should remember that even the smallest gesture can dramatically alter another person’s life

“As a bartender I worked in the hospitality industry for a number of years, and experienced first-hand how the ‘Gin Boom’ completely changed the alcohol landscape. Whilst not the world’s biggest Gin Fan, I was however fascinated with the chemistry behind how spirits are made and how the vast and different tastes are produced. Rum became my all-time favourite spirit after a trip to Barbados, where I learned about the rich varieties and culture surrounding it. 

Later, I travelled around New Zealand where I learned about antipodean beverages and after further exploring the topic of Climate Change I decided I wanted to do something. To make an easy way for people to circumvent their inherent selfish tendencies and do something to help, whilst feeling good about it at the same time of course! 

So the idea for the Selfish Spirits Company was born, with our Dark Spiced Rum as our signature spirit, hopefully paving the way for more products and opportunities for people to make an easy difference.
