Today is Earth Day 🌍, celebrated annually on the 22nd April! The theme for this years #earthday is to "Invest in Our Planet", calling for businesses to shift towards more #sustainable practices.

In today's day and age, I believe you cannot (and shouldn't!) create a business practice if it does not aim to be #environmentallyfriendly. Global Warming/Climate Change is undeniable, and you can easily see how people's attitudes have shifted towards sustainability. To create a business that purposefully doesn't reflect this is irresponsible and is almost guaranteed failure.

It's tough for the individual to feel like they are making a difference when it comes to sustainability. Of course we can all make the effort to recycle, buy less packaging, use public transport. But on the personal level, its hard to feel like you are making any significant difference because there's only so much that can be done. What if you can't afford to buy the brand that uses less CO²? What if your council doesn't recycle certain types of plastic? What if there isn't any practical bus routes in your area?

That's why it's up to businesses and governmental organisations to take on the responsibility of sustainability, to improve their practices, so they can provide these opportunities to the regular consumer so eventually it'll benefit them to be sustainable. At The Selfish Spirits Co., this is what we believe and is the ethos we follow. Although we're only small and just starting out, all our decisions are based on what would be the most ethically conscious choice.

🌱Our labels and packaging pouches are made of 100% biodegradable sugarcane fibre

📦Our delivery boxes are all recyclable and use less materials, including our tape!

🌳Our stoppers are made from wood and a biodegradable cork agglomerate (which is waste scraps from the cork shearing process that are compressed together)

♻️Our glass bottles can be infinitely recycled

🥃Rum is made from molasses, which comes from sugarcane, well-known for its superior carbon sequestration!


We strive to do more to limit our carbon footprint even further, and its important that we always keep up to date with new sustainable methods to be the best version of ourselves we can be. For the benefit of everyone.
